Federal Poly Idah Engineering Programmes Suspended By NBTE

The National Board for Technical Education
has suspended admission of students into
all engineering programmes at the Federal
Polytechnic, Idah, Kogi State.

It was learnt that this is as a result of a
petition by the National Diploma students
of the polytechnic.

In the petition, the students lamented the
absence of practical learning in the
polytechnic’s School of Engineering. Stating
further that the school laboratories has
been locked permanently due to lack of
facilities.

They also complained about low practical
learning for engineering programmes in the
polytechnic due to a large number of
students in a class.

Following this, the NBTE through the public
Relation Officer of the board Mallam
Suleiman Gwarzo, have issued a statement
suspending all engineering programmes
offered in the institution.

Excerpts of the statement read, “The
investigation confirmed the students’
allegation, after it was observed that at the
(ND) level, the number of students enrolled
was between 300 and 400 students.

“This was in violation of the approved
carrying capacity for the programmes.
“Based on the above observations and to
ensure that standards are maintained, the
board has directed that the institution
should stop further admissions into its
engineering programmes.

“This, according to the statement, will
continue until all the deficiencies observed
are corrected.”

The statement added that the board had
also advised the Registrar, Joint Admissions
and Matriculation Board, Prof. Dibu
Ojerinde, to accordingly stop all processes
of admission into all engineering
programmes in the institution.
