Google Ambassadors Organise Training Workshop for Unilorin students

The University of Ilorin Google
Ambassadors, Abideen Olasupo and Itodo
Patience, have organised a three-week
google training workshop for their fellow
students at the University.

While declaring the workshop open, the
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali,
who was represented by the Deputy Vice-
Chancellor (Academic), Prof. (Mrs.) N.Y.S.
Ijaiya, described the training workshop on
“Google Online Marketing Challenge” as a
very important one. She urged the students
to take advantage of the programme
because information and communication
technology rules the 21st century.

The Vice-Chancellor recalled that the
University administration was elated when
the Google Ambassadors presented their
awards to the University administration last
December, adding that the administration
would always support such training that will
benefit the students of the University.

Prof. Ambali charged the students not to
focus on activities around lectures alone
nor waste their time on frivolities but
engage in training such as the Google
Online Marketing challenge to add value to
themselves and improve their chances of
being independent.

In his address at the event, the lead Google
Ambassador, Mr. Olasupo, appreciated the
University for its support and requested for
free bandwidth to carry on with the
programme. He noted that the goal of the
training is in tandem with the philosophy
behind the introduction of
entrepreneurship programme by the
University for its 300 Level students.

Mr. Olasupo advised the University to
mandate each student to register a
company with the Corporate Affairs
Commission as part of the requirements for
the entrepreneurship course. He noted that
this would encourage each student to
pursue the objective of the course after
graduation, adding that he had already
started his own company.

In his presentation, the resource person,
who is a google individual partner and past
winner of the Google Online Marketing
Challenge, Mr. Jeleel Adedoyin, stated that
the Nigerian youths have no choice other
than be part of the global revolution in the
area of Information and Communication
Technology, which is growing at
exponential rates. He stressed the need for
the youths to take advantage of the internet
which helps to achieve a lot within a short
period of time.

Mr. Adedoyin said that apart from the
opportunity to compete with people around
the world, the Google Online Marketing
Challenge enhances a person’s chance to
gain employment and to be self employed
through creation of blogs and
commercialising existing blogs and
websites.
