NYSC: Paigas To Mentor Youths On National Pride

The Pan African Institute for Global Affairs and Strategy (PAIGAS) is organizing a mentorship programme to strengthen the belief of Nigerian youths in themselves and the country.

President of the Institute, Ambassador Martins Uhomoibhi, gave this hint during a visit to the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure.

Uhomoibhi, who was Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noted that a lot of young Nigerians did not know the history of the country; adding that the Institute was taking steps to document and tell the Nigerian and African stories in order to inspire the youths.

He expressed concern about the rate of migration of young Africans to Europe. According to him, three hundred and sixty thousand Nigerians migrated to Italy through the Mediterranean in 2016 alone.

He added: “Youths think there is greener pasture in the European countries. We have lots of blessings here; we have lots of resources. So what is this madness about migration?”

The PAIGAS President spoke on the role of Nigeria in promoting peace and development on the African continent, and said that the country would continue to exert itself in view of its enormous potentials.

He said PAIGAS is collaborating with twenty-two professors, who, along with some career Ambassadors, would work together to bring their experiences to bear on young persons, especially by giving them true pictures of issues to enable them take rational decisions.

Uhomoibhi, who relive his experience as a Corps member in 1976, praised the unifying role of the NYSC, adding that the Scheme should be sustained.

Responding, the Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure praised the PAIGAS President for his initiative, and assured him that the NYSC would facilitate the delivery of the Institute’s message to the youth.

Kazaure said the Scheme would avail the Institute of opportunity to interact with Corps members during Orientation course periods.
