A very sad news as a reckless school bus driver on May 6, Wednesday, crushed one Miss. Mary Ibitolu, a 200 level Law student at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile
Ife, to death.
The shocking incident occurred at about
10:30a.m around Osogbo Grammar School
It was learnt that the deceased was on a
commercial motorcycle when the bus
belonging to Muslim Model College, a
private school in Osogbo hit the bike and
knocked her down.
Before the shocking incident, the driver of the bus was said to have queued at a filling
station at Okefia but waited in vain owing to
the long queue and he angrily left the
queue in search of fuel elsewhere before he
lost control and rammed on Ibitolu.
The bus it was further gathered, suffered
brake failure before the incident.
Ibitolu was rushed to Osogbo Muslim
Hospital at Okefia where she gave up the
ghost in less than ten minutes after she was
brought to the hospital.
The motorcyclist survived the accident but
sustained minor injury. Also, a commuter,
who was waiting to board a bus was also
said to have been knocked down by the bus.
An eyewitness attributed the accident to the
bus’ break failure lamenting the reason why
a school would be operating such vehicle.
The bus that crushed Mary to death
The bus and the motorcycle were later
taken to Dada Estate Police Station. The
police officers at the station declined
comment but referred our correspondent
to the Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs
Folasade Odoro, who could not be
contacted as her telephone line was not
Meanwhile, at a requiem mass for the
deceased at Sacred Heart Catholic Church,
Osogbo, sympathisers that thronged the
church could not control their emotions.
She was buried at the cemetery of Saint
Benedict Catholic Church around 6:30pm
after the funeral mass amidst weeping and
wailing by relatives and colleagues.
Many have lost their lives to road accidents
as a result of reckless drivers. Last month, a
young girl suspected to be a student of
Ambrose Alli University; Ekpoma was
crushed to death by a Lorry along Uhumudumu Road in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo state.(Naij)
