According to the UniJos Registrar, Jilli Damdam, the figure represented only those who scored 180 points and above in the UTME and chose the University as their first choice.

He said the number of candidates who had applied for admission into the university was much higher, but that only those who met this year’s Joint Admission’s Matriculation Board cut-off point were invited.

The registrar explained that the school would have admitted only 4,500 but for recent increase in the carrying capacity of the university by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

According to him, the exam was staggered from August 28 to September 5 because it is a computer-based test and to avoid too many persons on the campus.

Damdam said the candidates were grouped into three: science, social science and arts.

The registrar gave assurance that adequate security measures had been put in place in collaboration with the Special Task Force, the Police and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps to protect the candidates and the examiners.

He said only candidates who had their JAMB slips and the university’s acceptance slip would be allowed into the premises.

He stressed that security personnel would not allow people milling around when it is not their time and, therefore, advised candidates to report only on the specified dates.

The registrar said candidates were expected to arrive 30 minutes ahead of time, adding that the last day, September 5, was meant for those who missed their assigned dates. (NAN)
