UNN VC Honoured By Mayor President of Baton Rouge, US

The Vice Chancellor of the University of
Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Professor Benjamin
Ozumba has been decorated with Honorary
Mayor President of the City of Baton Rouge,
USA by the Mayor President, Kip Holden.

Performing this function on a courtesy visit
at the Conference Room of the Vice-
Chancellor, the President, Board of
Trustees, Information Communication
Technology (ICT) University of Baton Rouge,
Prof. Victor Mbarika pledged to collaborate
with UNN by upgrading the University’s e –
Learning Facilities.

According to him, his aim is to provide an e-
learning laboratory, conduct internal and
external training for UNN staff and create
model to run Distance Learning
Programmes online.
Prof. Mbarika emphasized that he had
travelled to Sub- Saharan Africa to help
upgrade online learning in various
institutions of higher learning.

In his response, Prof. Ozumba commended
him for partnering with the University and
said that the collaboration was in line with
one of his five-point agenda which is to
make UNN one of the most leading
universities in the world in scientific
research and innovative teaching.

He added that he had visited some foreign
universities which have won Nobel Prizes to
partner with them in order to move the
University of Nigeria forward in research
both globally and otherwise.

Furthermore, the Vice -Chancellor revealed
that more than two hundred Research
Groups had been instituted in the
University with a grant of One Hundred
Thousand Naira (N100,000.00) to aid the
increase of article publication in impact
factor journals.
