Foundation Offers Scholarship to Internally-Displaced Pupils
The Chairman, Destiny Care Focus Initiative, a non-government organisation, Segun Fasuyi, has said the foundation will offer scholarship to 10 of the internally- displaced pupils in the Stephen’s Centre, in Obantoko Abeokuta, Ogun State, for their higher education.
Stephen’s Centre is a school for children from the North-eastern part of the country ravaged by Boko Haram insurgents.
Fasuyi made the promise in Abeokuta when the foundation came to celebrate the 50th birthday of one of its co-founders, Mrs. Titilayo Fasuyi.
He said such support had become necessary due to neglect the less-privileged had continued to suffer from both individuals and governments in the society.
He said, “The decision was informed by the need to identify with the children, who were mostly victims of the Boko Haram insurgency in the Northern part of the country, in their hours of trauma.
“It is disheartening that the support is not there for these people. For instance, in spite of the array of wealthy citizens in the country, people don’t come here to see what people are doing here.
“I think we would need to pray that God should touch the hearts of individuals, not government alone, to have mercy on the less-privileged.
“If people are of God, the government would be of God. If the home is not good, there is no way the government can be good.”
Fasuyi’s wife, Titilayo, urged the pupils to look up to God for guidance.
She explained that the decision to set up the foundation was born out of the commitment to serve humanity, especially the less- privileged.
She said, “It is the mercy of God that we have received. People like us never thought we could get to where we are today, but God has elevated us. I think the best thing to do is to serve the Lord with all our substance.
“Going by the pathetic stories of the parents of these children, we felt it was imperative for us to share with them what we have and to encourage them to continue in the Lord and let them know that God is still with them and he is still going to help them.”
The centre’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abayomi Afolabi, noted that such support would go a long way in lifting the spirits of the pupils and the management.
He said, “Our needs are enormous. Accommodating, feeding and taking care of over 400 pupils could be financially stressful. But with support such as this, we believe we are going to go far.”
