The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ilorin Branch, has commenced the construction of a 14-shop mall, which will be ready for commissioning in 45 days.

UNILORIN

Its Chairman, Dr. AbdulRasheed Adeoye, made this known last Monday (August 24, 2015), during the turning of the sod for the building by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON). The Union had earlier built a block of hostels for female students on the campus.

Speaking at the sod turning, the ASUU Branch Chairman stated that history was being made with the construction, adding that the project was a manifestation of Unilorin ASUU’s mantra of “constructive unionism” hinged on the welfare of members and the students.

Dr. Adeoye assured the University community that the shopping mall would be built to standard, while maintaining that fund for its construction was available. He, therefore, submitted that the building should be completed in one and half months.

In his remarks after the turning of the sod, the Vice-Chancellor said, “This day is an historic occasion to showcase intellect, welfare and positive agenda of the Unilorin branch of ASUU”.

Prof. Ambali commended the union for embracing constructive unionism and for investing in the future of its members, noting that it was a way to guarantee tomorrow. He also praised the Union for its avowed readiness to deal with the challenges of the future.

“I am glad all the unions in the University are thinking positively and making plans for tomorrow. You are leaders that foresee tomorrow and you can be assured that the administration is behind you”, the Vice-Chancellor said.
