A total number of about seven thousand fresh students were admitted into the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, UNIZIK, Awka during the 2015/2016 matriculation ceremony held on Saturday, January 23, 2016.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, congratulated the students on their admission and reminded them of various programmes the University Administration had put in place for a conductive learning environment.

He said his administration has instituted a work-aid scheme to assist some indigent and physically challenged students.

Ahaneku said students interested in the work-aid scheme are expected to put in 5 hours of work a week to get a payment of ten thousand Naira (N10,000) monthly. For a student to qualify for the scheme, he/she must have a cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.50 or more on a 5 point scale and be cleared by the Security Department.

The VC further advised the new students to always be of good conduct and shun all social vices that could truncate their stay in the University.

Highpoint of the ceremony was the administration of the Matriculation Oath on the fresh students by University Registrar, Dr. I. H. Isidienu, which stipulates that they will abide by the rules and regulation of the University and to uphold the principles for which the University stands for.

This was followed by the oath on secret cults administered by the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Prof. Kenn Nwogu.
